Post Production

This page will be like my diary updating every time something new has been done to our work be it the poster the trailer or the magazine.

Trailer:
21st January
Today we uploaded all of our image and all of our footage onto the editing software, Adobie. We then looked through all of our clips and decided as to which ones are the ones that we will use and which ones we do not need. We then looked to see if there is any more clips that may need to be re-filmed. One clip of the dropped possessions will need to be re-filmed as the framing was not perfect. I will do this today after school as it will be very quick and easy for me to do. We then looked through our animatic to remind us of the structure and order to our trailer. Next lesson we shall start editing these clips together.

22nd January
Today we started to piece together our clips, we decided to put them all on the timeline so we could see a basic structure. After looking at our animatic to the shots that we have we decided to remove a few shots. For example the ones which involve the telephone as we felt the trailer would work better without them.

24th of January
Today we focused on creating our titles. We looked at the film 'gravity' and decided that their titles would fit to our piece as we are trying to portray how serious the situation is. Simple titles in a simple font deemed to be best fit. We created these in 'Ribbet' and copied the gravity titles exactly. They now look extremely professional, we will add these to our trailer next lesson.

28th of January
Today we continued to edit our trailer. We cut clips to the right timing and we added effects onto some of our clips that needed to 'dissolve' or be 'black and white'. We also added in our captions which we made previously. Soundtracks of 'wind' were also added in however we will need to look at this and modify it at a later date.

1st of February
Today we modified some of the shots that we have included. We slowed some of them down and sped a few up. We also worked on fading in and out particular shots. We also looked at exactly where the sound of wind was needed. We used the razor tool to cut the soundtrack and worked on hiring and lowering the volume.

4th February
Today we decided that some found footage of an actual disaster or storm would help strengthen our work. Because the events of the disaster appear in black and white we did not need to worry about the difference in colour. we found some footage of a tree splitting in two and inside a house with book shelves and items falling. We really liked this footage and are going to work on incorporating into our next edit. We feel this footage will strengthen our narrative and make it clearer. Of course we would have loved to have recorded the footage ourselves but that unfortunately is just not possible.

10th February
Today we put in the found footage and trimmed them, zoomed in on them and added effects, they look brilliant in our trailer and definitely add what was missing. We then worked on shortening some shorts and also re-ordered some so that the narrative would be more apparent. After doing this we worked on bringing in the car alarm soundtrack. We originally had it just on the shot of the deserted car however we modified it for a greater effect. We put the soundtrack over not just the car scene but the other scenes of desertion that are in black and white. We then carefully executed the shots so that at the moment of every 'beep' the shot would fade out and change to the next shot. This has added a very nice and professional feel to our trailer. This did take quiet some time though.

12th February
Today, we hope, is the final day of editing. We worked on finding a non-copyright soundtrack and fitting it to our piece. This took some time as we wanted specific high notes and so on to happen at specific times. Therefore we had to cut the soundtrack multiple times, bring the volume up and down and so on. This took us some time but we are happy with the outcome and feel that that sound is perfect for our trailer. When watching the trailer the whole way through we noticed that the shots that accompany the car beeping sound should actually be in color rather than black and white as they are shots showing the present, the devastation and desertion left behind. Therefore we changed these shots back to colour.

Poster and Magazine:
19th February
Today we worked on our poster ad magazine. First we selected the images that we would want to use for our print work. This took us some time as we changed the idea for both of our print work pieces. We decided that the poster for the film 'The Road' fitted well to our thriller trailer. We pitched this idea again to our class and they all agreed. (below is the Road poster). Once we selected out images we had to cut them out ready to go on to a found images of a deserted background. (A found image). We did this in Photoshop which took us some time.

20th February
Today we took the cut outs and placed them over our found image for our magazine. We then uploaded these into 'ribbet', a editing site, and added on effects to change the colours of the images. This allowed the two images to merge together as one. Below is the image with the filter. We then put the edited version into 'Paint Shop Pro' and put a masthead and a bar-code onto the image taken from a 'Sight and Sound cover' using a cutting tool. This provided us with the basic out line for our magazine cover.

21st February
Today we worked on paint shop pro again trying to tilt the background slightly so it looked like it was taken from a canted angle perspective for out poster. This took some time as we did not want to lose the quality of the background image. We then placed our chosen poster image over this image. The image is of me and Rachel from behind, opposite to the magazine image. We then worked on adding similar filters to this image.

26th February
Today I focused on editing the poster whilst Jennifer worked on the magazine cover. I took the photo-shop image of me and Rachel and placed it into Ribbet again. I looked at 'The Road' poster again and then started to work on adding in some text. I messed around with font styles, size and colours. I had to also think about the quote that I used to be sure that it would sound like something 'Sight and sound' would say.  I came up with a few designs which I have shown to my peers asking for some feedback. Below are a few of these different designs. I followed the title format that 'The Road' used by placing the actors names near the title however I put the names below the title rather than above. I feel that today I came close to the completion of our film poster. I also changed the filter over the image to a more black and white effect. We then had to do this to our poster to ensure that they match. This photo was when we first started editing. The road poster had the titles placed upon the characters back however due to the colour of clothing we could not do this. So we chose to move the image more over to the left and work on placing the titles in the new space.

We came up with this idea. We chose to use the yellow text as it was the colour used on 'The Road' poster. However from our feedback from peers we may change it to black. I and Jennifer both like this poster idea. Jennifer added cover lines to our poster which were in a red font and so I decided to play around with a red font. I did not complete the design as I just wanted to see what it would look like. I do not like this idea but below is an image of it.

We came to a conclusion through our feedback that the poster idea above is the best one however we will change the yellow font back to black. We then worked on adding cover lines to our magazine cover as well as pugs.

28th February
Today I changed the font from yellow to black on the poster. This will now be our final edit.

We also have added the finishing touches to our magazine cover. We have added the correct cover lines to the magazine in 'Ribbet' and altered the size, style and colour. This took us some time to do. First we had to decided on what the cover lines would say. We did this by looking at past Sight and sound magazine covers. We have to be sure that the level of language is correct, we decided to make the cover lines relevant to our classmates work.
