Planning

Planning

Before filming our idea first we have to plan every detail of it. We done this through time lines, spider diagrams, shot lists, props, settings etc.

Ideas:
The first area of planning I did was to watch thriller trailers for both psychological and disaster movies. From this I have created a spider diagram. It may not be very clear but the blues bubble and lines represent things I have noticed within Insanity trailers and the green Disaster trailers. The yellow represents my initial idea, the 2 coming together.

From doing this I then created another diagram including the basics of everything I wish to include in my film. Ranging from the three part structure to the shots I wish to include.

Story boards:
First we created a time line of the three part structure. On this timeline we added sticky notes of every single shot we wish to include in the trailer. This helped us to see our idea visually and where it may need to be altered.

As you can see in this first image, the shots start slow and gradually increase on tension and speed.

In this image are the shots that will make up the peak of our trailer. There are numerous shots that will be edited in a fast pace.
In this image are the shots that slow down the pace bringing the trailer to an end.
These timelines were helpful as we were able to remove shots completely alter them and change the order until we were completely happy with the order of events. From this timeline we created our first storyboard. These storyboards make it easier to look out our trailer ideas without having to unroll the big piece of paper with all the sticky notes.

Shot list

From this shot list we created a schedule of shots and which ones will be filmed together. This allows us to make sure every shot is included and estimate the time each session of shots will take so we are able to inform our helpful actors.

Filming schedule

These allow us to organise days aside for specific shots.

The production schedules are grouped together in terms of what shots can be done on one occasion. Therefore all the shots of desertion are on one sheet all the shots involving Caterina are on another and the shots involving the 'family' on another. This will help us to plan on what props we need on what days and also to help make filming more convenient for the actors involved. If we filmed in the order of our shot list we would need to ask Caterina to come back and film with us on numerous occassions which takes up time, effort and can be difficult.
Magazine covers

These are a few of our magazine ideas.

My ideas:

These are a few mock magazine covers that I made by using pictures from the internet. I feel using an image like the second one showing the fear on the parent and child's face will help to convey fear, the title and some form of disastrous background conveys thriller. I would like to create an image/magazine like this.

Jennifers ideas:

Poster Ideas
Here are a few of our poster ideas.
My ideas:
This poster again shows the fears of the child and parent. The mother will have makeup running from her face and may look a bit grubby to help show something disasterous has happened. The background would be an image of the disaster made slightly dull so the title and tag line stand out.

This poster will be similar to the one above. The top section will be the mother and child again along with the tag line and actors, the middle the title and the bottom half images from the trailer of the disaster merged together.

This poster will be more left focused. The image will appear on the left of the women running. I will use an image of the disaster behind her. On the right side the tag line and title will be present.

Title

Between us we have struggled with a title and so we have created a spider diagram of some possible titles. From this we will ask class members and students to vote on which they find the most interesting. This will be included in our picth

Animatic

Together me and Jenifer created an anamtic of our storyboards. We did this by taking individual shots of each drawing. We then edited these all together to flow for a certain amount of time. We added in the dissolves where they will appear in the real trailer and also added in some sounds to make the anamatic come to live. This anamatic allows us to see how the trailer will work if it is to be made. I feel the anamatic allows us to put the whole idea in to perspective.

Pitch
To help us understand which would be the best ideas to go with we formed a 'pitch' to show to our target audience to get some feedback. The pitch includes all of our magazine and poster ideas as well as our storyboards a brief synopsis and an anamatic. We will ask the target audience to give feedback on our idea and also on which cover and poster works well, as well as their favored title.

Pitch feedback

Whilst presenting our pitch to our target audience we supplied them with a feedback sheet. This is how the sheet looked:

From this feedback we have been able to make a decision of which poster and magazine cover to use. Our winning pieces are below. We have also been given advice to make the images of the mother and child slightly larger and to also think about whether or not to use a found image of a disaster on the bottom half of the poster. Without this feedback I feel me and Jenifer would have struggled as to which poster to chose as well as magazine and title. I particularly like the title 'Silent night' as it has a creepy ring to it.
